#I just realized that when caroline lies down #she’s staring at her phone the entire time #hoping; hoping; hoping for it to ring #thinking that maybe she can MAKE it ring by sheer force of will #because she needs tyler; needs to hear his voice and pour out her woes and have him comfort her #she can’t impose on anyone else; she wants so badly to make things better for elena and bonnie but she can’t #and matt hardly ever has patience for her problems anyway #and although caroline went through hell and back in the past couple of days #she still feels like unloading her own pain on anyone else would be selfish of her #her problems feel trivial compared to everyone else’s; at least she’s still alive; the people she loves most are still alive #but her world still got turned upside down and even while she’s trying to support everyone around her #she so desperately wants someone to support her; be there for HER; hug her and tell her it will all be ok #and tyler was always that person; the one who got it; who always understood her #and for the first time he isn’t there #(even when he left to break the sire bond; they kept in touch; she knew he was coming back) #she doesn’t even know if he’s dead or alive; whether klaus has caught up to him already

#there’s a part of me that wishes that caroline could just have run away with tyler#like they were planning to at the end of s3 #look #stefan and damon are going to do whatever it takes to protect themselves #but this is our lives #so let me protect you #that’s one of the most interesting sources of tension in their relationship #how caroline has always had ties and loyalties to the rest of the mystic falls group #in a way that tyler doesn’t #and even if it meant not seeing either of them ever again #some part of me would have loved an ending for them where they just got the hell out of dodge together #sigh #i hate everything #still cannot believe the show fucking did this on valentine’s day wtf #we’re immortal remember?#we will find a way #no matter how long it takes #decades or centuries #and every time either of them turns a corner #or crosses a street #they’ll be looking for each other #wondering if the universe will arrange a reunion for them out of nowhere #no matter how brief #every time tyler sees a flash of blonde hair out of the corner of his eye #or caroline hears a voice that sounds familiar - and maybe just maybe - it could be #and their breath will catch in their throats and they’ll let themselves hope for just that one second #just kill me now
